Break-through!
You're Not Big-Boned
You're Not Big-Boned
One of the most classic cliche' misunderstandings among people who say they want to lose weight is that they just have "big bones". Trainers hear this as a cry for help..."Help me escape my current reality!"
The cop-out being unintentional since you just didn't know you needed some good guidance and training to readjust your life course. There are those exceptional people who grow to eight feet tall, but overall "size" of the body is related to the percentage of body fat, not size of the bones.
"Bone size" theory is left over from the 1950's -1970's or before x-rays were invented! Some times the idea has gone to the self-delusion level.
The term is not considered relevant or accurate nor honest anymore. Underneath all that fat is a small, lean, healthy person. The density of the bones vary, meaning how strong they are, but outward size varies little, unless there's an undiagnosed tumor of some kind.
Part of the dilemma for many is when people are repeatedly told that they are just "big girls" or "big boys"...they believe a non-truth because people who care about them told them repeatedly.
When they hear this message over and over they begin to believe it in the back of their mind, and then they justify the behaviors that led to being big as an anecdote rather than the cause.
If you want to know how big your skeletal bones are, burn off a lot of fat (get your body composition to 20% or less and you'll begin to see the reality of your skeleton).
Well-intentioned family members are not personal trainers...so they might not know how best to help you help yourself. IF you have 10% body fat and you still appear big, (basketball players for example), then your structure is still above average, but in the 20+ years I've been in the fitness industry, I've seen one, maybe two. but their height was the greater indicator of being a "bigger" person than appearance prior to burning off all the excess fat through diligent exercise and nutrition.
Most often, the greatest indicator of overall size is a misunderstanding message is to take a good long look at how your family eats and their relation to exercise and "fitness". In other words, families which simply eat every meal like it's thanksgiving, hit Starbucks twice a day and simply consume excessive calories routinely, more than likely you're not really a big girl or big guy...you're just:
1) Over-fed,
2) Under-nourished and
3) Unfit.
People who think if themselves as "big boys" or "big girls" generally come from unhealth- conscious families.
Often, one person in the family responds differently than everyone else's habits and gains fat easier and retains it more. In order for the person who gains easily to get on track, they have to "mature" beyond following everyone else in the family and social circle and design a lifestyle for themselves to get their own body fat down, regardless of how everyone else is behaving toward fitness and nutrition.
That doesn't mean you isolate yourself from your family, or isolate yourself from gatherings...it simply means you derive greater pleasure from taking care of yourself than following everyone else...you step up and become a health leader rather than the good kid who follows along with what doesn't work for you.
Ultimately, once you get your lean mass up and your fat mass down, your friends and family will he asking you for help and guidance. Most people just don't know what to do. NOW, the clincher here is that most people with a body fat percentage above 20% are generally under-nourished...meaning the brain is low on the key nutrients (BNBBs / Vitalizer for example) [link below], so they feel like they are being deprived of the social aspects of eating junk food and excessive calories with their family pack.
In truth, people who eat the SADCRAP don't feel good about it, they simply don't know to do life any differently. As always, I suggest taking the Vitalizer everyday for 30 days before beginning to eliminate junk food... Otherwise the emotional part of the brain feels like it's missing out on the things that are causing fat to grow.
Ultimately, you have to decide to get your body fat level to 20% or less, no matter what!
Otherwise you'll constantly be tempted by participating in the familiar "trough effect"... mindlessly consuming massive calories OR restricting calories and nutrition so that the body holds onto every single calorie turning it to fat. ((1,600-1,800 is the minimum calories it requires for the body to let go of excessive fat). People who tend to restrict calories for years attempting to starve the fat usually end up gaining more and more fat as the goes on.
Even the big boned person should have low, healthy body fat level.
Unfortunately, what happens for many is they think because they haven't been successful in the past, they're just a big girl or big boy...[not so]... It simply means they haven't been properly trained... Or haven't committed to follow through on what they were taught. In the 20+ years I've been a trainer, I have had clients who previously hired personal trainers who were clueless and blamed the clients for lack of success when in reality it was the trainer's lack of professionalism and education that prevented the client from getting lean and healthy REGARDLESS of BONE SIZE.
What I'm talking about is going outside the comfort zone of being fat and happy... get comfortable training your body to utilize fat for energy instead of storing more and more fat and then labeling yourself as a big girl or big boy. You'll still have all the fun times (probably more so since you'll look and feel better in your body and get a lot more positive attention). Many times people are constantly told to "watch their weight" or "cut calories" by well intentioned loved ones...but unfortunately it has the opposite effects...it causes the body to gain fat...the people who say that aren't professional trainers. Then, in a mind set of not accepting the self, (low self esteem) the body holds onto body fat as an emotional holding pattern I refer to as, "Weighting to Wait" (described in later blog posts).
So! There's nothing wrong with your body... it's been doing what it has been trained to do, even unintentionally. You're not likely a big girl or big boy under the fat. If you haven't achieved your ideal body yet, it simply means you:
1) Haven't had good training,
2) Made the healthiest, well-informed decisions and
3) Haven't changed your lifestyle to support your healthiest self.
Even with the very best trainer, you have to get the correct information and then do YOUR part. Most trainers in gyms like Gold's, Powerhouse, Anytime Fitness, 24 hour fitness, etc., have three days or less professional training. I was fortunate to have a good trainer from the get-go in my early 20s. And I didn't have much correct fitness training prior to meeting my trainer Tracy Mix. I simply did exactly what she showed me without changing anything and got remarkable results. The body that is optimally nourished with whole food, functional- foods and Vitalizer burn about 45 pounds in 8 weeks.
(Picky eating and "not liking a lot of food variations" is a sign of malnutrition, although your medical team and dietician might not recognize the truth of this).
There's such a difference in these three things I simply don't train people anymore who don't do the nutrition part the way I suggest. Why would I invest more than they do?
So, rethink the possibility you haven't had good training! I have had clients who were really fat but refused to stop partying and mindlessly consuming alcohol and SADCRAP on the weekends...they don't succeed until they get real with themselves.
(But these are the same people who complain about how they are paying for training but not getting fast enough results.)
With these people I simply refer them to a less experienced trainer...one who doesn't know any better and won't pressure them to do what they haven't committed to.
Fat loss requires a lifestyle change and a change in priorities. Once you're intent on getting lean once and for all, the answers of how to get lean and HEALTHY will seem to appear when they've been right in front if you all along.
If you or a friend needs help, simply ask! Below is the link to my website. By using this website I can show you how to save 25% off the retail price of Vitalizer. Shaklee products are only available through independent distributors and I've personally used them for since 1993. The first time I tried them was 1973, but it took me 20 years to find a distributor again (long before the Internet). All products on my website carry an unconditional money back guarantee. The average Shaklee customer has been using Shaklee for 18 years.
Do it now, do it consistently!
