Why Didn't I Lose Any Weight??
The "science" of weight loss is already proven. I know some of the news stories and advertising cater to people who wish real hard they were exceptions to the laws of nature and the science doesn't apply to them (gastric bypass type surgeries, liposuction, importance of leptin, and other seemingly miraculous solutions for people who "can't" (won't) lose weight as well as very unhealthy short-term solutions which virtually destroy the possibility of good health in the long run).
Truth is, I have met one person, a female, who the usual laws of nature didn't apply to her...while I was managing the GNC store, a lady customer visited the store who had lived through a nuclear reactor meltdown.
Yes, she had received so much radiation the doctors didn't believe she would even live. Long story short, her body was altered so much that every system was messed up from radiation exposure hundreds of times higher than what people receive during cancer, radiation treatment.
In reality, people who say they can't lose weight are spending more energy trying to make exercise and nutrition "not" work that if they used just 1/4 that amount of energy to simply participate fully and honestly they could be as low as 4% body fat in 18 months.
Too low for practical purposes, the point being that fat loss...[sustainable fat loss] is as simple as following along...participating. There's no secret or mystery unless you're in denial or you have a different agenda than to lose weight and get healthy. Even people who only give 1/4 effort consistently get some good results.
Some people enjoy the process so much they gain, lose, gain, lose -almost like a hobby.
Excellent results require about 4 hours of exercise per week and a tiny bit of daily discipline in regard to nutrition. Most of the work (the planning is already done by trainers).
HONESTLY, burning fat is easier than not and it's a lot less expensive!
So, with that in mind, two reasons that prevent the actual doing of fat loss program, are this:
1) STICK TO IT. Tackle one day at a time. Fat loss is not a thing that happens on a certain day, week or year...nor is it a one time experience. You have to make the decision within yourself to begin living a different [lifestyle]. If you don't live a different lifestyle, the same old fat-building affects will creep back in...since the environmental, relations, friends and other enabling factors will not go away on their own...and they'll always be around!
You're the only thing that has to change to have long-term, health first, sustainable results!
Very similar to addiction to crack, pot, alcohol, heroin, etc., the fat lifestyle has been engineered by food chemists to get people addicted and for them to feel justified about it...as though hurting yourself is a "right"... It is...an insanity right! There's a lot of money at stake betting that you will take the short term pleasure of SADCRAP over the long term payoff of good health.
Truth is that if you choose a fat building lifestyle (whether conscious or unconscious), the industries make money during the whole process of fattening you up (Grocery Manufactures of America) and then ...once your body begins breaking down, in the form of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, stroke and on and on... if you don't take care of yourself, then another industry (medical) is there in attempt to counteract the damage that has been done, and yes, you're entitled to do it to yourself! (anonymity).
Physicians fit into the scheme because they want to help people, which they do, but about 90% of the stuff people go to the doctor for are related to daily lifestyle choices (diet and nutrition).
Doctors can't help you with stuff you don't acknowledge or take responsibility for!
Yes, medical problems can be 'treated' but if you don't stop doing the factors that cause the problems to begin with (lack of activity, smoking, alcohol & other chemicals and withholding of nutritional density in the daily routine) the treatments can only do so much.
It's amazing how many overweight people I meet keep asking why their knees hurt... (each pound of fat puts 4lbs of stress on the joints)...it's a medical mystery!
I can't tell you how many times I've heard of people "doctor shopping" trying to find a doctor who will tell them they don't have to eat right or exercise because the patient wants to be an exception to the laws of nature.
Massive amounts of healthcare dollars are spent on people "doctor shopping" for illicit reasons...talk to any doctor. I know a well respected endocrinologist in Seattle (that's like 13 years of professional education at least) who patients routinely seek his expertise to diagnose what they insist is a thyroid deficiency, "...it has to be my thyroid!"...After all the tests are done, the numbers are looked at and everything points to poor diet and lack if exercise, the patients stomp off and go to the next physicians. I kid you not.
(Even thyroid problems respond to nutrition and exercise)...Patients wishing to be exceptions to the laws of nature..."I'm just the messenger! Don't shoot!"
2) When you get off track (everyone does all the time), simply GET YOURSELF BACK ON TRACK...that's what adults do!
Success in every endeavor, regardless the context, means locking onto your goals (desired outcomes) and when you notice you're off track, just readjust and keep going. Success is THAT simple. The cumulative effects of the average correct results result in success (batting average...not perfection).
Again, regardless of what the goal is, it's impossible to know all the potential obstacles that life will present, but the science of fat loss is separate and simple from all the things that will come up.
Once you make the decision congruently, inside and out, nothing that comes up in life will be considered an obstacle since it's about taking one day at a time and noticing when you're off track and readjusting as you go. That's what's meant by "No one can make you live". Burning fat is a totally personal thing, but you aren't so unique that the laws of nature don't apply to you...but you have to apply the laws of nature! The information is available, all you have to do is ask, follow, adjust as you go.
Like anything, the most common challenge among all success is deciding to begin and then beginning. It's that initial three weeks before the behavior becomes an unconscious habit that we "perceive" as "hard". Once the new lifestyle is an unconscious habit you'll notice you feel more uncomfortable [not] doing the new behavior...like something is missing...so maturity and impulse control (those adult behaviors) are good to utilize!!!
Once you succeed, you'll help and be the role model for those around you who have been looking for the fat loss "secret".
The secret is inside you!
I personally offer three different types of fat loss programs depending 1) how far beyond 20% body composition you are 2) how fast you want to burn fat and 3) what your level of commitment is.
I see you succeeding!
Do it now, do it consistently !
