Successful Self Re-Invention

Instill the Opposite Personality Traits

The most simple way to re-invent yourself is to really think about what qualities you want to have and then compare them with the qualities you currently have and have been living by.

Lets take someone for example who want to be a successful distance runner, whatever that means to them. Generally, people will get an idea or an inner vision of what / who they aspire to be like. Sometimes people will have a role model but not necessarily. Sometimes people create a whole new thing, with no previous role models.

If the person here has never run before in their life, they'll have to start somewhere...everyone does. So they would set a short term goal, say be able to run for two minutes without resting. They would write out on paper exactly what their goal is. That's the most important part since all future actions will need to be tailored to their vision. If their vision isn't clear, concise and specific then its near impossible to outline what kinds of behaviors to do that are different from all other goals.

The common denominator for a distance runners is "endurance". They have to focus on and go about building up their endurance. So, logically, the person would then go about doing research on the [basic fundamentals] of gaining and improving endurance with the end picture of accomplishment in mind.

Special Note: Where most people make a mistake in this part of the process is that instead of focusing on and mastering the fundamental basics is they look at what accomplished, seasoned professionals do and think they're going to star of with advance techniques (as is there is a shortcut), which always leads to injury since they haven't developed enough to handle that level of stress.

Of special consideration is the things that the successful people did that if they did it over they wouldn't do or what pitfalls they would avoid. You don't need to make the same mistakes others have made and by talking to successful people in the category of your choice, you'll glean important tips that will save you time, energy and money.

Here's a basic outline of the steps to re-invent yourself:

1) Pick what quality you want to replace qualities you currently have.

2) Build the vision of the completion.

3) Research the basic fundamentals.

4) Master the basic fundamentals.

5) Learn the culture of those who have gone before you. (e.g. the most healthy & successful fat loss programs include sensible supplementation...if you begin picking what you're willing to do and not do, you'll eliminate key steps that assure success, thereby sabotaging yourself before you begin.

6) Go outside your current circle of influence (family, friends, co-workers, etc.) to get the help, education and skills you need. (You won't get where you want to go by being where you've always been.)

7) Get professional help whenever you reach the limit of your ability & skill set. (Get help from people who specialize in what you want to accomplish).

8) Monitor your progress for success and plateaus.

9) Adjust your course, to maintain forward motion.

10) Improve as you go.

Regardless of your goals, its common that people are missing the qualities in their personality that will provide them the thing they want. In other words, if someone is overweight and wants to get lean, its unlikely they will have acquired the skills to get lean and healthy from their immediate family...they have to go outside their group to get help.

To reinvent yourself, you have to figure out what qualities you do have and then which ones people who have done what you want to do possess, then which ones you need to add or subtract from your own personality to get where you want to be.

For example:

Shy / Confident

Fat / Fit

Slow / Fast

Poor / Rich

Sheltered / Cultured

Lonely / Social

Ignorant / Educated

Sheltered / Well Traveled

Illiterate / Multi-lingual

...and so on

Once you have picked the qualities, you initial goal will be to practice them, engage in the daily routines for three weeks minimum...then those qualities have begun to establish as an unconscious habit and its at that point that your future will begin to manifest a new version of yourself. Habits take 21 days to begin to establish in the psyche.

For example, if you are shy and you want to be more outgoing, read books, research self confidence and talk to the people who have the qualities you want. If you want to be lean and healthy, study lean and healthy lifestyles. If you want to be financially wealthy, study those people.

MOST OF ALL, add people to your current circle of influence with the people who have accomplished what you want in yourself and people who have the qualities you desire. There's no short cut to success but what I'm talking about here is economy of movement and efficiency. Its been said that where you'll be in five years is the average of the five people you're around the most today. Income level, body fat level, fitness, values, etc. all relate to this average, so pick people carefully.

Go for it!
