Does I Have To Do the Nutrition Stuff?

 Part II

Quickie answer: No, you have just as much right to succeed as not.

If you seek a professional the best in their field, ask them for help and then don't follow through, what does that mean to you?

Complete answer: My goal is to help you get what you want for the least amount of time, energy and money…with the greatest amount of long-term value in terms of sustainable health and wellness.

Time and time again, either during an initial consultation or once starting their program I have come to recognize when a client or potential client is not ready to get what they say they want. They say what they want, but they don’t want to do what it takes to get there…yet. Sometimes they get a look on their face or they huff, puff and yawn as if they know better than what I’m telling them which in itself is kind of perplexing…they are talking to me because I’m supposed to know how to get them what they want, but then behave as if they know better. They want to stay the same and yet get different results.

I guess I can’t blame them, there may be more marketing scams than real value in fitness programs out there. I think I was fortunate to have a good trainer from the get-go. I simply did what my trainer (Tracy) told me to do and got remarkable results.

The quick truth: Is that whether in the long or short run, people who don’t improve their nutritional status are often surprised and dismayed with their lack of progress while the ones who do make the changes are the ones we see in the striking “before and after,” photos. (People are surprised when what they believe turns out to not be real). Ultimately disappointed, the people who don’t integrate nutrition and the B.N.B.B.s into their daily routine have to accept that the body and the quality of life associated with it are an average of the quality and consistency of the nutritional resources they consume and wrap their mind around the idea that they are going to have to make it a lifestyle choice to get the results they say they want.

"Lifestyle" means doing less of what doesn't work and more of what absolutely works.

The long list of testimonials from my clients who get not only fitness related improvements but their entire life outside the gym improves are more often the folks who have integrated at least some of the nutritional tips I teach. My happiest clients are the ones taking the B.N.B.B.s as I describe them.

One of the points I make during my fat-loss seminars is to make a “lifestyle” of it.  The folks who make sure they are fueled for their workouts and begin to refuel immediately following their workouts notice their whole life improving…even their income level…yes, even their income level!

So yes, in the big picture you could see how people who don't earn enough to hire a trainer are malnourished!

In essence, a person’s brain-body deficient of the B.N.B.B.s often describe themselves as lacking creativity, ingenuity and over looking opportunity when it is right before them. While the brain-body fully-fueled with sufficient B.N.B.B.s functions at a higher level and manifests an improved lifestyle as one result.

While the people who behave as if they do not want their workouts to “interfere” with the rest of their life, let alone their dependence on S.A.D.C.R.A.P. complain they aren’t making any progress and how much of a cost training is and how they don’t have the money to get training or invest in their own nutrition. They continue to experience naggy health problems and miss the value of what they could have had. They have it wackbards and don’t know it…yet.

One has to have faith enough to put it to work...give it a real go…once you do, people will begin asking you how you did it and you’ll be sharing stories with everyone about how much your life has improved…and not just your body fat level.

Those of you who know me or who have spent any time around me know I’m not the type to brag but when clients get exceptional results and they share them I like to pass them along…kinda’ like “tooting my own horn without blowing it.”

I think of it as if I work for a living but live to see your successes.

I will say that I didn’t invent the stuff I teach people I simply have had a foundation of personal experience (20+ years of not doing it correctly), combined with my professional trainings and experiences along with consistent application and experimentation so that I know what works and what is not likely to work long before it is tried, but I always rely on the science (body composition and blood chemistry), to confirm or deny my experience & intuition.

The information I provide is critical to you getting the goals you seek. I spent a lot of money and time myself learning what works and what doesn’t so you don’t have to. Unlike a lot of other trainers, there is no “filler,” or “fluff,” information, simply what works the most efficiently without getting off track for any period of time. The only limitation is how quickly and accurately one applies what I demonstrate. If I give you the information you seek and you wait  a couple weeks to apply it, you have effectively prolonged your success by a couple weeks…it's that simple.

It doesn't matter what the timeline for your goal is of you keep procrastinating full and consistent commitment. Have dates when you want to reach your goals is the fun, imaginative part...but reaching your goals takes a mature approach to disciplining yourself until your healthy lifestyle becomes a healthy habit...impulse control.

As you’ll see in the upcoming examples I have trained folks who felt the crunch of paying for personal training for months or a year at a time, showed up for their training sessions consistently, but didn’t apply the nutrition parts and therefore didn’t see much change in body composition the whole time.

In my experience(s), the more mal-nourished a person, the longer it takes for the nutrition information to “sink-in” to the client’s way of thinking:

A brain-body deficient  of the B.N.B.B.s does not seem to learn or take in new information even when it is vital to the health of the brain.

The people who behave the most resistant to apply the nutrition information are often the ones whose body and mind needs the information most.

So in essence, someone may need to lose fat or gain lean mass (as a result of chronic, low-level mal-nourishment), and at the same time be too mal-nourished to understand the importance of the very information that would help them get what they most want and need...they are stuck in an emotionally unproductive state.

If you do the nutrition part correctly from the beginning, you’ll likely burn off the body fat you want to rid yourself of at a rate of about 12 lbs - 20 lbs per month. And then you just move into maintenance mode.

And that leaves one wondering, “Why have I been spending months working out but not doing the nutrition thing yet.” Does it not?

But if you don’t do the nutrition part, you’ll likely spend months upon months in the gym, lucky to see a 2 lb monthly decrease in overall body fat, followed by an increase the following month. Fat loss simply is not sustainable or maintainable without the nutrition connection.

If you are hit and miss with your nutrition you’ll likely see swings in your body composition of  about 1 ½  lbs each week. Up one week and down the next.

The following are a couple of real-time examples of folks I have worked with over seven months who spent $4,320.00 on personal training sessions with me.  [Note: Everyone receives the same information packets and guidance based on their particular goals.]

Take note of the following points for each example:

1) Both people started personal training with me in November 2007.

2) They each had two prior personal trainers who moved on prior to beginning to train with me.

3)  Following the second trainer, they thought they would try working out on their own, but after three months realized they needed supervision to follow through and contacted me to help them get on track.

Take note that in both examples, body composition was checked every month, give or take a couple days here or there depending on scheduling logistics.

5) Notice that in example #1, during seven months there was:

.6 lbs (6/10ths of a pound increase in body weight)

.6 % increase in body fat

1.9 lbs increase in body fat mass

1.3 lbs loss of lean mass

6)  Notice that in example #2, during 7 months there was:

7.4 lbs lbs increase in body weight

2 % decrease in body fat

3.55 lbs decrease in body fat mass

10.95  lbs gain of lean mass

7)   Special note for example #1, this person’s intermediate goal in January was to lose 20 lbs of fat by the May body composition check.

8) Special note for example #2, this person’s intermediate goal in January was to lose 50lbs of fat by the May body composition check.

9) Both people in examples #1 and #2, they were given specific suggestions both verbally and in handout form about what to take in terms of B.N.B.B.s to meet their goals from day one, but made substitutions, ultimately skipping the information that could have made as much as an 80% difference in their outcomes.  For the same financial investment they could have burned 100 lbs of fat between the two of them in the first two months.

This amount of time, energy and financial investment without much improvement in the way of body composition is common among people who skip or substitute the nutritional & fitness program  guidelines…even when they are told that 80% of the benefits they get or miss out on are dependent on those guidelines. It took me a long time to realize people think the act of spending money will make the fat go away.

HINT, HINT…what got you to where you are now may not get you to where you want to be.

Where you are now is the average of your physical, mental and emotional actions up until now. If you want a new version of you, you’ll have to do new thoughts and actions to get new effects in your body…new actions that may not “feel” right for someone who’s emotions are askew from having an undernourished brain-body to begin with.

It's always a red flag when someone says they want to get new results, they don't know what to do, the ask for help, but insist they don't like to be told what to do...essentially, they are caught in a self-imposed, self-sabotage cycle.

In some cases the very standards folks use to know what to do or not to do on a day-in and day-out basis are not only tainted with an under-nourished brain-body, but make all the difference in doing the appropriate actions for their goals.

In other words a person may have a goal of losing 20 lbs of fat, but when the brain-body is not nourished adequately, the “proper” actions to get that goal will “feel” wrong. Mistaking their emotional “feeling” about the proper action with accurate gut feelings often leads to regressing back to habitual fat-building actions as soon as the training session and the accountability to the trainer is completed for the day.

In other words, the under-nourished brain-body leads the body to actions which are (for all intent and purpose), to soothe the emotional state, rather than raise the functioning of the brain-body relationship itself.

Even in best case scenarios, I only spend three hours a week with any client. That leaves 165 hours in the week where the client can do what is familiar to them. And those fat-building habits will remain natural “feeling” until they simply take the suggestions in and apply them. If they skip or substitute they won’t get what they tell themselves they are paying for.

[I have found time and time again, through trial and error, that spending more time with a client talking and teaching these principles doesn't elicit a higher success rate within them...it comes down to them simply doing the fundamentals, not talking about the principles.]

After decades in the industry I know that  more often than not people tell themselves that they’ll “…just try it their way,” for a few months and “...see how it goes.” A few months down the road they realize there has been no sustainable change and looking back they have just spent time, energy and money trying to make what never worked before work now…but what “felt” right at the time...new habits never feel natural...hence, it takes 21 days to feel natural about  new lifestyle.

Doing any amount of added activity and or combined with a decrease in calories will result in some change in size appearance and the way clothes “fit”, but not often any improvement in body composition, blood chemistry health or vitality.

What I train people to do is burn fat, gain lean mass, gain bone mass and improve overall health and vitality for a level of health which improves as life goes on and these benefits require specific actions from the get-go.

Generally, the people who have the most challenge in getting on track with a healthy fat-loss program are the ones who discover that ultimately it really is about them. It doesn't matter how good their doctors or trainers are...there really aren't any weight loss secrets...the principles have already been put out there... it comes down to daily choices and habits.

If you'd like to put the idea of an under-nourished brain to the test, I encourage you to try our 180 Turnaround Fat Loss program.
